Return to Superconduction

Description:

A superconductor is cooled with liquid nitrogen and a small rectangular magnet is placed on it. When the superconductor reaches its critical temperature, and begins to superconduct, the magnet will float above the surface. A video camera can be used to display the floating magnet. This demo looks especially good when the magnet is made to spin above the surface of the superconductor.
