Description:

The Newton's Rings apparatus consists of a curved piece of glass held with its convex side against a flat piece of glass. The thin film of air trapped between causes interference patterns which can be changed by tightening or loosening the screws holding the apparatus together. The interference patterns are projected onto a screen by reflecting white light off of the Newton's Rings apparatus and through a focusing lens onto the screen.
