Coke Bottle Trick

From UO Physics Demonstration Catalog

Description:

In this demo, a water glass or coke pop bottle is filled with water and a card is placed over the open end. The bottle is inverted and the card held in place until all of the air in the bottle rises to the top of the inverted bottle. The card will now stay in place without aid. This demonstrates that the air pressure outside the bottle is greater than the pressure of the water, holding the card in place.
