Generator--Alternator

Return to Magnetic Fields and Forces
Description:
An automobile DC generator is driven by hand through a set of pulley's. The magnetic field within the generator can be self induced or can be induced by an external voltage supply. The output of the generator is connected to a box that has a set of three 12 V light bulbs, each can be independently turned off or on. As the generator is turned to the point of lighting one of the bulbs, another can be turned on. The turner of the crank will then feel a very pronounced loading effect as the adding light bulbs draws more current, the required energy is higher and the crank is harder to turn.
