Description:
Demonstration transformers made by coupling coils of various turns together with iron cores that are made of insulated layers of laminated iron to discourage eddy currents in the iron. Step down or step up transformers can be put together using coils that have various numbers of turns. Coils are center tapped so it is easy to double the number of turns of the coil. Meters connected to the primary and secondary to measure the voltage, use a function generator for a nice low voltage AC sourse. Ratios of voltages are compared to the turns ratio. Comparisons are very close. Hysteresis and eddy current losses can be discussed and the layers of the core can be shown that limit eddy current losses.
